Handicraft Workshop at La Casa de Panchita

As I´ve told before, we started a handicraft workshop at La Casa de Panchita couple of months ago. We have learned all kinds of handicrafts with the help of our professor Carmen, who will also be the responsable for the workshop when I leave.

During january we have been making jewellery (bisuteria) from seeds, shells and glass pearls. The girls have been really excited to make their earrings, necklesses and bracelets, and at the same time they have been able to use their creativity and make their own designs. All the girls - including th professor - work in domestic service, so the only day the have free is sunday. The work is very physical and the days long, and that is propably why many girls find the handicraft workshop a good way of relaxing, and the same time they can chat with the other girls, too. Then there are some who use their new skills to earn some extra money, which is also part of the idea why we started the workshop in the first place.

Since we found so much talent in the group, we decided to start to sell the products to other girls, too. Yesterday we organized our first "miniferia de bisuteria"!

After the miniferia we were offered the possibility of selling our products at La Casa de Panchita, not only on sundays but every day! We are now looking for possibilities to widen our market, let´s hope something comes along!
